XFER

The Remote Data Polling System (XFER) is a protocol designed by Nothern Telecom for downloading billing data over X.25 from telephone switches in the DMS-100 family. Advanced Relay's implementation conforms to the XFER specification as described in Document Number AA03 dated August 27, 1996 entitled XFERPRO: Data Transfer (XFER) Application Protocol, Technical Description, Release 4.0.

Advanced Relay has ported its XFER implementation to run on the PXS. For this application, the PXS is directly connected to a DMS-100 switch as a front-end processor. Using X.25 virtual circuits, it downloads billing records from the switch and forwards them to a remote file server over TCP/IP where the records are written to disk. All of the details related to X.25 and the XFER protocol are handled inside the PXS. During operation, the PXS logs its activities to a remote log server.
