GatewayThe PXS is especially suited to provide gateways between Ethernet bound protocols, normally TCP/IP and HDLC type protocols, such as LAPB, LAPD, SDLC, Frame Relay, X.25, and SNA. If the gateway is installed at a mainframe or phone switch that uses X.25, then the user data can be switched from X.25 to TCP/IP. No special synchronous hardware is required at the remote system. SwitchThe PXS can switch X.25 connections on two synchronous lines into one or more X.25 connections using one or more TCP/IP tunnels. Since LayGO® also supports X.25/LAPB tunneling through Frame Relay and even X.25 tunneling through X.25, switching between each of these connections is possible. RouterStrictly speaking, most of the above implementations have to do some routing, to decide which data are bridged or tunneled to which locations. The PXS can be used as a router by adding and integrating routing software, such as RIP. |
